Young legislators boost Ilocos Norte's COVID-19 response

by PGIN-CMO

Apr. 28, 2020 ...

Helping fellow frontliners from health facilities down to barangay, members of the National Movement of Young Legislators (NMYL)-Ilocos Norte Chapter continue to boost the response of the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte in mitigating the effects of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic

NMYL-Ilocos Norte Chairperson Board Member (BM) Atty. Saul Paulo A. Lazo and Vice Chairperson Laoag City Councilor Roque Benjamin "Rbee" C. Ablan lead fellow young local government officials in the province in rendering assistance, mobilizing necessary resources, and delivering disaster aid in the province.

Together with PGIN-Office of the Barangay Affairs staff, the organization headed to the municipalities of Adams, Bangui Dumalneg, and Pagudpud and in Carasi, Marcos, and Solsona to distribute food packs, various vegetables, and personal protective equipment for medical frontliners on April 21 and 24, respectively.

Since the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine declaration, PGIN has been keen in implementing programs to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 pandemic, such as funding cash-for-work and livelihood continuity programs, realigning budget for procurement of necessary equipment, launching Kadiwa Express, setting up quarantine facilities, and implementing numerous preventive measures, to name a few.

On top of these, PGIN has done some rounds of province-wide food distribution through its Task Force Salun-at. A total of almost 70,000 families were given food packs in the first wave and more than 22, 000 beneficiaries in the ongoing distribution covering 15 municipalities. PGIN relief operations in remaining municipalities will follow.

Also supportive of these initiatives are Sangguniang Kabataan-Ilocos Norte, City Government of Laoag, and the private sector.

Notably, NMYL did extra efforts to support Laoag City General Hospital and Gov. Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital, particularly by equipping said medical institutions with safety intubation equipment.

BM Lazo took his gratitude on social media, saying:

"I pray that He [may] give me strength and protection from the virus so that I can help further. At times like this, not only does the mind have to work but also one's heart,"

We are one on this fight. We serve as one, we heal as one," he ended.

Previously chaired by Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc, NMYL-Ilocos Norte has been active in raising funds to support indigent students, conducting medical missions, distributing school supplies, and leading calamity relief even for other provinces.
