Transport hub in Ilocos Norte to ease traffic problems

Mar. 28, 2022 ...

The Department of Transportation (DOTr), in partnership with the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, has funded Php 380 million to build the "Ilocos Norte Central Terminal Hub," which will help alleviate traffic congestion in central business areas in the province.

According to Mr. Cipriano E. Martinez III, Metro Ilocos Norte Council (MINC) General Manager, the DOTr, through Secretary Arthur Tugade, and the PGIN, through Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc, signed the Memorandum of Agreement on March 16, 2022, and are in the process of completing the requirements for the fund to be downloaded.

The transport hub, which will be constructed in Brgy. 5, San Pedro, Laoag City, is designed as an intermodal terminal with multi-level platforms to alleviate traffic congestion in business districts and provide seamless interconnectivity of various modes of transportation such as public utility jeepneys, buses, taxis, vans, and tricycles.

It will also function as a transfer point for commuters entering and exiting the province, making land travel more convenient and comfortable.

Mr. Martinez stated that the DOTr brought delegates from the Provincial Government to the Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange and the North Luzon Express Terminal to present the concept of the infrastructure project.

He added that the MINC Office will be in charge of overseeing the operation of the transportation hub, and that no fees will be collected to transportation groups who will use the terminal building.
