"Speak Up, I'm Here" gives psychosocial support to kids in conflict with the law

Jun. 14, 2021 ...

In preparation for their reintegration into society, the Speak Up, I'm Here (SUIH) mental health counseling center of the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN), provided a two-day psychosocial intervention for some children in conflict with the law (CICL), who are housemates at the Bahay Pag-asa in Laoag City.

"The head of the Bahay Pag-asa invited us to deliver a psychoeducational seminar to the housemates and their parents on May 27 to 28, 2021. This is necessary for them to begin over and live a life in which their psychological health is at its best," Mrs. Divina J. Sevilla, SUIH Psychological First Aider, said.

The seminar covered seven topics, namely Understanding Self, Anger Management, Stress Management, Mental Health Awareness, Suicide Awareness, Bridging the Gaps, and Parenting. The participants are also engaged in group dynamics, face-to-face interaction with the first aiders, and parent-child interaction.

"We are expecting for further collaboration with the Bahay Pag-asa, as the head has expressed her desire to do so as well," Mrs. Sevilla added.

PGIN to host 1st wellness camp

SUIH is also preparing to host PGIN's first wellness camp which will take place from June 24 to 25, 2021 to give the much-needed respite for Provincial Capitol employees and SUIH clients in the middle of the pandemic.

A free overnight wellness camp will be held for 30 camper participants, as chosen by their respective supervisors.

Campers will look forward to joining self-reflection and team-building exercises, as well as nature involvement and other meditation activities.

"Our goal is for the participants to enjoy the companionship of themselves and nature, to detoxify and get a positive energy, and to develop a mental rejuvenation," Mrs. Sevilla remarked.
