The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte - Provincial Employment Service Office (PGIN- PESO) was named the top performing PESO in Region 1 by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on May 1.
Recognizing over 50,000 jobs generated through the different employment campaigns spearheaded under the administration of Ilocos Norte Governor Imee R. Marcos, DOLE Assistant Regional Director Eldipio Atal Jr., handed a plaque of recognition to PGIN representatives, PESO Head Ann Marie Lizette Bitancor and Senior Provincial Board Member Matthew Marcos Manotoc.
"Manang Imee equals Trabaho," "Task Force Trabaho," and "Saguip Nars," among others, are programs of Governor Marcos through PESO, which generated thousands of jobs since 2010.
PESO maintains an online job portal, bridging the gap between local applicants and employers, and consecutively conducts employment and career counseling, anti-illegal recruitment seminars, and other measures to ensure equitable jobs for all.
They have also organized multiple job fairs in the past, inviting domestic and foreign employers to hire local professionals. The most recent job fair was last Labor Day, May 1.
These programs contributed to the outflow of unemployment rate down to 4.2 percent, making Ilocos Norte the least poor province in the region.
Meanwhile, PESO's Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) have encouraged and hired over 500 youth as part of the capitol's workforce this summer, acting as office assistants and tourist aides in various offices and sites in the province.
Gov. Marcos promises to "continue this growth, which is not only posting good numbers, but more importantly, changing lives," demonstrating her long-term aim to provide good and well-paying jobs for Ilocanos that will keep people from leaving the province as a last economic resort.
