Over 9,000 barangay frontliners, disadvantaged Ilokanos receive financial aid

by PGIN-CMO

Sep. 23, 2021 ...

A total of 9,294 barangay frontliners and disadvantaged Ilokanos have already received financial assistance from the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), respectively.

The PGIN has set aside Php 10,000.00 for each of Ilocos Norte's 559 barangays, while Senators Imee R. Marcos and Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go have appropriated P50 million and P5 million for the DSWD's Aid to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) Program, separately.

Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc, in his message, commended the barangay frontliners for their role in maintaining health and safety at the grassroots level throughout the pandemic and expressed his hope that the amount will at least bring joy to them.

"Gusto kong magpasalamat kasi halos isang taon at kalahati na tayo sa pandemya at tuloy-tuloy pa rin ang trabaho ng mga [barangay] frontliners natin. Talagang taos-puso kaming nagpapasalamat sa inyo. Thank you for keeping Ilocos Norte safe."

He also thanked Senator Marcos and Senator Go for allocating a portion of their budget to the DSWD's AICS Program, which benefits disadvantaged Ilocanos especially this pandemic.

"Kahit nasa senado na si Senator Imee talagang hindi niya nakakalimutan ang Ilocos Norte. Tuloy-tuloy po ang suporta niya sa mahihirap. Maraming salamat din kay Senator Bong Go dahil dinagdagan pa niya ng P5 million ang budget para sa Ilocos Norte," Governor Manotoc remarked.

Beneficiaries of the AICS are those families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, displaced workers, persons with disabilities, single parents, indigents, senior citizens, and those in need of medical assistance.

The ongoing payout started in Piddig town in the first week of September, followed by Vintar and Nueva Era, with each beneficiary receiving Php 3,000.00.
