Over 70k COVID-19 doses administered in Ilocos Norte

Aug. 03, 2021 ...

The Department of Health (DOH) Region I reports that Ilocos Norte has administered 74,055 COVID-19 vaccines across the province, as of July 27, 2021.

With the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte's (PGIN) accelerated immunization program, a total of 50,480 Ilokano have received their initial jab, while 23,575 are fully immunized.

Just a few days ago, Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc declared that PGIN has been "rolling out much more heavily," distributing vaccines to the different cities and towns, and allowing local chief executives to lead the implementation of the vaccination campaign.

Meanwhile, DOH has now categorized Ilocos Norte as a priority area for vaccine distribution, noting the continuous upsurge of COVID-19 cases here, in addition to the confirmed alpha, beta, and delta COVID-19 variants. Ilocos Norte is presently under MECQ until August 15, 2021.

Amidst the upsurge, PGIN, through the Provincial Tourism Office and the Provincial Health Office, administered 700 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to tourism workers on July 31, 2021, at the St. Mary's Seminary, Laoag City.

Moreover, from July 25 to July 31 the City Governments of Laoag and Batac were able to vaccinate 26,935 individuals, according to the data of DOH-Region I.

To reinforce its safeguard, PGIN has called on the private sectors to assist in the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines in the whole province.

In addition to its immunization program, PGIN has also strengthened its   "prevent, detect, isolate, trace, and reintegrate" efforts by deploying more border officers, acquiring COVID-19 test kits, setting up field hospitals and isolation facilities, and hiring additional contact tracers, among others.
