Dec. 14, 2021 ...

Over a hundred participants joined the "Psychological First Aid (PFA) Training" co-hosted by the Provincial Government's Speak Up, I'm Here (SUIH) Mental Health Hotline and Center and Philippine Red Cross Ilocos Norte Chapter.

The organizers held two-day training in the municipalities of Pagudpud, Burgos, Pasuquin, and Laoag City from November 4 to December 3, 2021.

Barangay Health Workers, Municipal/City Disaster Risk Reduction Management staff, Rural Health Unit personnel, and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Presidents were among the participants.

According to Mrs. Divina J. Sevilla, SUIH Psychological First Aider, the project aims to train community leaders to be responsive to their constituents' mental health concerns by assisting them with counseling and debriefing.

Part of the training was the discussion of the PAF's three action principles, namely, "Look, Listen, Link," which explains paying attention to the situation, paying attention to the person, and taking action to help.

Mrs. Sevilla continued that the three action principles will be the participants' future responsibilities as psychological first aiders in their own barangays, especially since people's psychological stability has been misaligned by the pandemic due to unexpected loss of loved ones, layoffs from work, business bankruptcy, and other reasons.
