INYDO wraps up LiNKS celeb with "NETFLIKS" series

Nov. 30, 2020 ...

In Ilocos Norte, COVID-19 has caused the cancellation of major provincial events; from tourism, cultural, to academic. Fortunately, Ilokanos have found innovative ways to celebrate while prioritizing the safety of the community.

This year, the Ilocos Norte Youth Development Office (INYDO) has scrapped the idea of conducting the live Linggo ng Kabataan Sirib (LiNKS). Instead, it engaged in a virtual celebration to stay connected with the Ilokano youth amidst the pandemic.

"Dahil sa tuloy-tuloy na pagdami ng COVID-19 cases sa Ilocos Norte, I have challenged my team to come up with a plan kung paano namin isasagawa ang LiNKS, particularly ang 2nd Ilocos Norte Youth Convention," INYDO Officer III Mr. Willie Jake Sib-at said.

"As part of our DIGITAL LiNKS celebration, we came up with the idea to brand our second youth convention with 'NETFLiks: ilokano. kapanunutan. saritaan.' (Ilokano thoughts and talks), since patok ngayong pandemic ang movie platform. Para siyang series of talk shows na bawat episode ay naka-base ang title sa mga sikat na movie," he added.

As a wrap up of the DIGITAL LiNKS, the eight-episode NETFLiks live streams every Friday, started November 6 until December 25, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., on INYDO's Official Facebook Page "Sirib Express."

Anchored with the International Youth Day 2020 theme, "Youth Engagement for Global Action," topics tackled involve adopting practices that will help the youth sector in this new normal.

The following are the title of each episode in chronological order. The "Record of Youth" gave a glimpse of the youth-based initiatives of the Provincial Government amidst the pandemic; the "Squad Goals" was an in-depth discussion of the said theme; the "It's OK not to be OK" provided insights on the mental health among the youth; "The Social Network"  taught the responsible use of social media; the "Money Haist!" ventures into entrepreneurship; the "Everything About ED" and "Ilokano Class" deal with the new education system through the point of view of the school administration and students, respectively; and "The Governor" featuring a year-end special interview with Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc.

Moreover, among the previous competitions under the 2020 LiNKS celebration were photo essay writing, digital poster-making, vlog-making, singing contest, acoustic band competition, an online quiz show, spoken word poetry, Tiktok dance challenge, ILOwCOStplay, Ilocos Norte Next Top Model, Junior Officials 2020, Sirib Bloodbank Activity, and Sirib Awards 2020.

"Most activities of LiNKS 2020 were online-system designed to minimize the physical interaction and to facilitate social distancing while ensuring the engagement of youth more inclusive. It's very challenging to go digital kasi sanay na tayo sa face-to-face. But with the help of other Provincial Capitol Offices and our youth scholars, nairaos natin itong DIGITAL LiNKS celebration," Mr. Sibat ended.
