by PGIN-CMO

Aug. 17, 2021 ...

The formation of Barangay Contact Tracing Teams (CTTs) will ensure the needed boost to Ilocos Norte's contact tracing strategy, especially now that the presence of COVID-19 variants in the province was recently confirmed.

On August 13, Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc announced that the province has recorded seven (7) new COVID-19 Delta cases, one of whom had died.

A total of 148 close contacts of said cases have been identified from the first to third generation, as of yesterday. Among them, 17 have tested positive while three (3) died.

"Our contact tracers on the ground immediately conducted retracing. After identifying the exact locations, we started to retrace and endorse to the concerned local government units (LGUs). Right away, they enforced containment measures in their jurisdictions," Major Roxanne Parado, head of the Ilocos Norte Contact Tracing Team, said.

Particularly, barangays San Agustin in Bacarra, Nuestra de Señora Visitacion in Laoag City, Suba and San Roque in Paoay, San Pedro in Batac City, San Lucas in San Nicolas, and Victoria in Currimao each logged one (1) Delta case.

In addition, one (1) Delta case was recorded yesterday in Barangay San Ildefonso, San Nicolas. A contact tracing effort is ongoing in the said barangay.

"Malaki po ang improvement ng ating contact tracing efforts mula po naidagdag ang Barangay Contact Tracers. Naiiwasan na nating magkaroon ng backlog," Major Parado expressed.

To control the virus' spread, the PGIN-CTT has been conducting aggressive surveillance testing in high-risk areas and intensifying contact tracing to augment the operations of certain LGUs.
