Gov. Marcos Manotoc to Ilokano hog raisers: "Hindi namin kayo pababayaan"

Oct. 22, 2021 ...

Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc has pledged to continue providing assistance to all hog raisers throughout the province, whose livestock were affected by the African Swine Fever (ASF).

"We're here to listen to you and your suggestions. I know this situation has been hard for all of you so we want to assure you na hindi po namin pinapabayaan ang mga hog raisers ng Ilocos Norte. We'd like to hear kung ano ang mga recommendations ninyo," he expressed.

Last October 20, Gov. Marcos Manotoc, along with Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Loida Valenzuela, Committee on Agriculture Chairman Domingo Ambrocio, Regional Vet Quarantine Officer Dr. Zaldy A. Olivas, and DARFOI Regulatory Chief Dra. Annie Bares, convened several hog raisers for a consultation meeting at the Malacañang of the North in Paoay, to address their issues and concerns.

Recently, the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) has allotted Php 5.3 million from the realigned fund of the local disaster risk reduction and management fund and an additional fund amounting to Php 8.8 million, to provide assistance to affected farmers, particularly those who are not covered with insurance packages from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).

Aside from requests for the provision of more aid to various concerned agencies and departments, the Provincial Government, through the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, is also  working on an ordinance for hog raisers, hog buyers, meat vendors, as well as the consumers, to address and resolve issues related to ASF and ensure the overall welfare of the province's agriculture community.
