Nov. 24, 2020 ...

The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, through the Ilocos Norte Youth Development Office (INYDO), has capped off the 7th Sirib Awards with almost 280 young Ilokanos awarded at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena last November 16.

The Sirib Awards was initially formed in 2014 to recognize the youth who have brought honor to the province through their participation in national and international competitions such as in the fields of academics, leadership, sports, journalism, culture and arts, among others.

In his video message, Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc underscored the significance of youth awareness and involvement at this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Thank you for bringing great pride to our province. In times like this, we need our youth to be as involved and active as ever. We need you to be online to show your support, to fill in the gaps, to be socially conscious, and involved in your communities more than ever before.

"I applaud you. Please know that you have a supporter in your Governor and the entire Provincial Government," he continued.

Following the 7th Sirib Awards, student leaders from different schools, colleges, and universities were gathered at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session Hall to celebrate the National Students' Day on November 17 through a series of talks and workshops.

Topics discussed were "Student Legislation" by Laoag City Councilor Rbee Ablan, "Harmony between Student Council and School Administration" by Ms. Precious Camille Bucad, and "Online Content Management and Crisis Communication" by Ms. Jhazmine Audrey Miguel and Mr. Radz Bismonte, respectively.

Also present in the celebration were Vice Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos, Chairman of the Committee on Education Atty. Saul Lazo, and Sangguniang Kabataan Federated President Mr. Rafael C. Medina.
