Capitol light show, Miss Ilocos Norte pre-pageant open La Milagrosa Provincial Fiesta

May. 11, 2016 ...

The La Milagrosa Light Show, together with the Miss Ilocos Norte 2016 pre-pageant and evening gown competition, officially opened the La Milagrosa Provincial Fiesta at the Ilocos Norte Capitol last May 8, 2016.

Designed by Mr. Voltaire Dela Cruz, the show features patterns of lights falling to the beat of both classic and contemporary Ilocano music such as "Pamulinawen," "O Naraniag a Bulan," and the Sirib Express official soundtrack, given a techno-genre twist.

Dela Cruz shared that in designing the show, he did research on Ilocos Norte's culture as well as on local music.

"When they showed me the location of the light show, the first thing that came to mind was to light the whole Capitol building and make it very bright, colorful, and festive," he said.

He likes to refer to light shows as "architainment," saying that a lot of things, from movies and paintings to festivals and photos, serve as his inspiration.

The Capitol lights served as a unique backdrop to the Miss Ilocos Norte 2016 Pre-Pageant and Evening Gown competition, which featured local fashion designers' creations that utilized the Ilocano fabric, inabel. Results of the evening gown category will be announced on the coronation night.

Gown designers were instructed to create pieces with at least 80% of the design made of the inabel fabric in a bid to promote Ilocano culture and support local artists.

The Miss Ilocos Norte Coronation Night will be held at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena on May 18.

Meanwhile, the Capitol Light Show will continue airing until May 21 from 7:00p.m. to 11:00p.m. with 30-minute intervals.

Other upcoming activities of the La Milagrosa Provincial Fiesta are the Himala sa Buhangin! Art and Music Festival on May 14 at the Paoay Sand Dunes; the nine-day novena and mass on May 12-20 in churches in Pinili, Laoag City, Pasuquin, Vintar, Bangui, Bacarra, Batac City, Currimao, and Badoc; and La Virgen Milagrosa's grand procession beginning with a mass at the Laoag Cathedral on May 21.

"Certainly, we will continue to live in that mysterious, miraculous, great Ilocos Norte," said Gov. Marcos.
