Additional isolation facility in Ilocos Norte to house mild COVID-19 patients

by PGIN-CMO

Apr. 13, 2021 ...

A total of 60 additional isolation rooms were turned over to the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) to accommodate mild or asymptomatic patients.

On April 8, 2021, Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc thanked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), especially Secretary Mark Villar and the district engineers, for augmenting the province's isolation capacity, particularly amid the ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks.

This is the third DPWH-funded isolation facility in the province, following the first 81 cubicles handed over to PGIN last year.

At present, the Provincial Government has over 140 beds at the DPWH property in Laoag City and Takuat Center, San Nicolas, where patients are provided with free meals and medications.

"We are managing COVID-19 patients in our facilities if admitting them in a hospital is unnecessary. Mahirap ding tambakan ang mga hospitals. At the moment, Governor Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital as well as the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center are nearly reaching their maximum capacity. Kaya kailangan nilang mag-undergo ng screening upang mapili kung sino ang kinakailangang ma-admit sa mga hospitals," Provincial Quarantine Facility Consultant Dr. Rina Corpuz explained.

Moreover, Governor Manotoc called out some local chief executives to be part of the "team effort," urging them to construct their own facilities.

He added: "So far effective ang localized approach natin. We are able to control the outbreaks. I hope that we continue the trademark Ilocano discipline. I hope that those who are asked to be tested shall undergo testing because this is for the whole community. Let us consider others."
