In line with the aim of Senior Board Member (SBM) Matthew Marcos Manotoc to enhance sports development in Ilocos Norte, the Provincial Sports Development Office, headed by Mr. Faivo Bartolome, assures that Ilocano athletes
The Municipality of Paoay will have their annual Paoay Lake Dragon Boat Race on April 29, as a part of the town fiesta and in partnership with the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN), said Bartolome.
On May 7-11, 2018, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), through Commissioner Celia H. Kiram, will conduct the North Luzon Summer Sports Festival, consisting of five events: basketball, volleyball, baseball, football, and table tennis.
"The age groups for Sports Festival are 12 and under, and 13 to 14 years old," explained Bartolome, "in preparation for our secondary-level athletes. This is the focus of this program: to come up with new talents and to ensure that our current athletes also improve their performance."
The Sports Festival is expected to gather around 450 athletes from all over Ilocos Norte.
Moreover, the Sports Office together with SBM Manotoc are already formulating the second Ilocos Norte Youth (INYo) Games.
It is targeted for the second week of May, "in preparation for the opening of classes ulit para tuloy-tuloy ang training ng mga bata. Continuous talaga."
The 2017 INYo Games featured 13 sporting events, including lawn tennis, table tennis, swimming, chess, futsal, athletics, baseball, sepak takraw, volleyball, and basketball.
Street games such as patintero, bawang base, and tug of war were also played to promote appreciation of local culture among the young participants, numbering around 2,000.
Bartolome added that even coaches and officiators will undergo trainings on the second and third week of May this year, prior to the second INYo Games.
"Walang break ang mga atleta natin, pati na rin yung kanilang teachers at coaches. Tuloy-tuloy ang development at tuloy-tuloy ang upgrading of skills and knowledge," he assured.
