Sirib scholar reminds co-beneficiaries: Never hesitate to ask for helpJun 08, 2019
"Through the Sirib Young Leader Scholarship (SYLS), I have learned to wholeheartedly serve the community without expecting anything in return," Mark Vincent Tagalicud, one of the 84 graduating beneficiaries of SYLS and Sirib Community Leaders Scholarship, remarked.
Tagalicud, a beneficiary of SYLS since 2015, received his bachelor's degree in Secondary Education major in Mathematics as cum laude on the 41st Commencement Exercises of the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) yesterday, June 7, 2019.
He was also awarded "Most Outstanding Organizational Leader" and "Outstanding in Extension Services" last month. He underscored volunteer works and community services for developing his leadership skills.
Among his socio-civic engagements include being chairperson of Sirib Ilokano Kabataan Association (SIKA), Inc.–Dingras in 2017, member of Association of Young and Adult of Bacsil, and incumbent communication manager of SIKA-Dingras.
As a scholar, he reminded his fellow beneficiaries: "Keep on striving, work hard for your dreams, and never give up. Huwag na huwag kayong mawawalan ng pag-asa. Never hesitate to ask for help dahil maraming tulong ang handog ng Provincial Government. Lastly, aglalaingkayo. [Galingan ninyo.]
"Ako nga, noong magkokolehiyo ako, talagang mahirap kami financially since we are indigent. My parents have had hard time sending me to school. For two years, mag-isa na ang papa kong bumubuhay sa pamilya namin since my mother passed away," Tagalicud shared his story.
He also expressed his gratefulness to the administration: "Talagang malaki ang naging papel at tulong sa akin ng SYLS. Hindi ako makararating sa kinaroroonan ko ngayon kung wala ito. Dahil dito, makakapagtapos na ako. I'm very grateful for the assistance I have received from the Provincial Government headed by Governor Imee R. Marcos."
The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) offers multiple scholarship opportunities like the SYLS, which is handled by the Ilocos Norte Youth Development Office (INYDO), to reinforce its objective in providing equal and quality education to the Ilocano youth community.
