PGIN to offer scholarship for medical studesOct 18, 2019
With an aim to increase the number of health personnel and doctors who are practicing in Ilocos Norte, the Provincial Government headed by Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc is finalizing the inclusion of medical scholarship in its integrated provincial scholarship programs.
Gov. Marcos Manotoc confirmed during his "First 100 Days Report": "We have just finalized our 'doctor scholarship' which will be implemented next semester at Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU). With this, we hope that we will produce more homegrown Ilokano doctors in our province."
Provincial Education Officer Ms. Matilde Nery reiterated that the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the scholarship has been completed:
"We have actually finalized its IRR, together with the dean of the MMSU-College of Medicine and the Vice President for Academic Affairs. It will be endorsed to the province's Chairman of the Committee on Education for the creation of its ordinance.
"It will cover the whole tuition and miscellaneous fee for the whole year plus a monthly stipend. Since we only have a limited number for the initial slot, we will prioritize the third and fourth year students who are residents of the province. At present, we are doing our best and we are hoping to have this implemented next semester," Ms. Nery added.
Other scholarships offered by the PGIN caters to youth leaders, community leaders, academically excellent students, senior highschool students, athletes, and technical-vocational students.
