MINC to extend Night Express trips starting MarchMar 03, 2016
The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) through the Metro Ilocos Norte Council (MINC) will extend trips in its Night Express to accommodate the increased number of commuters during holidays, specific town fiestas, and the coming graduation season.
MINC was established in March 2015 to develop an integrated traffic management system for Ilocos Norte, while the Night Express was launched to accommodate increasing tourist demands for transportation as well as for late-night commuters.
According Mr. Xavier Ruiz of the Ilocos Norte Tourism Office, target towns for the extended trips are Pagudpud, Pasuquin, Dingras, Bacarra, Batac, Paoay, and Nueva Era. They will be offering trips up to as late as 11:00p.m. during Holy Week, March 23-27, to cater to more people.
"Likewise, during the fiestas in specific areas such as the Sunflower Festival in Pasuquin on May 1, and then the Farmers' Festival in May 10, mas pinagabi pa namin ang mga biyahe. The same goes for Dingras during March 15-22," Ruiz added.
Trips will also be extended throughout the graduation season to ensure that the relatives of this year's graduates of the different educational institutions in Ilocos Norte will have public transportation available to their respective towns.
The revised schedules will be posted in the online properties of PGIN, public utility vehicle (PUV) terminals, and municipal and city halls.
On the overall performance of the MINC Night Express, Ruiz shared, "We're happy to say that as a whole, maganda naman ang response ng mgalocal at ng mga turista. It's been very helpful."
