INYDO to hold 1st youth convention in August

Jul 31, 2019 ...

Less than two weeks before the formal celebration of the International Youth Day, the Ilocos Norte Youth Development Office (INYDO) is gearing up for the first Ilocos Norte Youth Convention on August 24, one of the highlights of the 2019 Linggo ng Kabataan Sirib (LiNKS) celebration.

Also, the first State of the Youth Address of Provincial Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federated President Rafael C. Medina on the same day is an addition in the series of activities.

According to Provincial Youth Development Officer Jake Sib-at, the idea of conducting the said convention was inspired by his experience while working with Assistant Secretary James Ceasar Ventura, Commissioner-at-Large of the National Youth Commission (NYC).

"I have witnessed the different programs of other provinces and local government units (LGUs) in the country. Ngayon hinamon ko naman ang Ilocos Norte, kung kaya ng ibang probinsyang magsagawa ng mga convention o conference, bakit hindi natin kaya? In fact, Ilocos Norte ang isa sa mga kauna-unahang probinsya sa bansa na nagkaroon ng youth development office," Sib-at explained.

Convention delegates will be composed of community- and school-based youth assigned by the different universities, colleges, and LGUs.

Moreover, Sib-at shared that they are tapping Teach for the Philippines, a national and a non-profit organization that aims "to provide all Filipino children an access to inclusive, relevant, excellent education," to elaborate on the theme: "Transforming Education."

Youth day celebration to support local talents

Encouraging the youth to showcase their talents and skills through various artistic platforms, the INYDO sets series of activities open for all young Ilocanos for the month-long celebration.

The annual Sirib Awards on August 12 will mark the beginning of celebration. It will also feature the introduction of little provincial officials and the opening of the five-day Sirib Photo Exhibit.

Other activities include online essay writing contest, short film contest, SK quiz show, singing and hip-hop competitions, speech choir, debate cup for senior high school students, Sirib youth blood bank, and tree planting.

"Mas mabuting hikayatin natin nang mas maaga ang mga kabataang makilahok sa mga programa ng gobyerno upang mas mahubog pa ang kanilang mga kakayahan. Kaya naman napaka-halagang suportahan at i-acknowledge natin 'yong malaking role ng mga kabataan dahil sila ang susunod na lider ng ating komunidad," Sib-at ended.
