Ilocos Norte Capitol Press Release: SBM Matthew distributes stipends to 821 MMSU scholar beneficiariesJun 07, 2017
Senior Provincial Board Member Matthew Marcos Manotoc thru the Ilocos Norte Youth Development Office (INYDO) and the Provincial Education Department (PED) distributed the last stipend for Academic Year 2016-2017 to the 821 scholars from the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) last May 30 at Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena.
The recipients were composed of Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) Sirib Academic Scholars, Sirib Young Leadership Scholars, Sirib Community Leadership Scholars and technical-vocational Scholars.
"Alam naman po ninyo na talagang importante ang programang ito sa nanay ko, kaya naman nandito po tayo and gusto niya talagang maging free college education tayo in the future," Manotoc assured, saying that PGIN will continue supporting deserving youth in finishing their studies.
Patrick John Quitoriano, Sirib Academic Scholar, thanked PGIN for the help he is getting from the program.
"As an Iskolar ni Manang Imee, it has been a big help to our parents for our tuition is free and we have a monthly stipend which suffices for our needs in school. This scholarship helped us in our school works and changed our lives, for we were exposed not just in school but in our community because of the 50-hour community service requirement."
Quitoriano is also incoming president of the MMSU University Student Council (USC).
For Mrs. Antonia Cariño, 61-year-old widow and mother of another scholar shared, "Nagdakkel a tulong ti inted ni Ma'am Imee kadakami a marigrigat, gapu ta no awan dagitoy a maipapaay a scholarship ket baka nagsardeng a nagbasa tay anakkon. Sapay koma ta itultuloy latta ni Ma'am Imee daytoy napintas ken makatulong a programa para kadagiti agtutubo a marigrigat ken agbalin nga inspirasion nga ituloyda ti arapaapda" (Malaking tulong ang binibigay ni Ma'am Imee sa aming mga mahihirap, dahil kung wala sana ang scholarship na ito ay baka huminto na ang anak ko sa pag-aaral. Sana po ipagpatuloy lang ni Ma'am Imee itong maganda at nakakatulong na programa para sa mga kabataan na mahihirap at magsilbing inspirasyon sa kanilang mga pangarap.)
Also present were Ms. Matilde Neri and Mr. Weenter Ventura, respective heads of PED and INYDO.
"Free College is possible and all poor but deserving students can graduate! Sasagutin ng probinsya at MMSU ang matrikulang mahigit kumulang P30 million na binabayaran ng mga kapus-palad nating mga mag aaral,"Governor Imee Marcos said in SOPA 2016.
