Governor Marcos congratulates PMA top 12 grad from SolsonaMar 30, 2017
Governor Imee R. Marcos congratulated Ilocano youth achiever Gerald P. Dela Cruz, who ranked 12th among 167 cadets of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 2017, Salaknib.
The class was noted this year as being dominated by female top-notchers, with only two male cadets in the Top 10.
Dela Cruz hails from Barangay Mariket, Solsona, and paid a courtesy call to the governor yesterday, March 29.
He stated that he would have been contented with simply graduating, "Bonus na from our Lord 'yong Top 12, ako nga nabigla noon."
Coming from a family of soldiers, he chose to join the Philippine Navy over the Philippine Army or Airforce "for a change." As a PMA graduate, he automatically earns the rank of Philippine Navy Ensign, equivalent to second lieutenant in the Army.
Dela Cruz shared the PMA spur, "Excellence is not an option, but a way of life," encouraging fellow Ilocano youth to exert more effort in studying and leave behind the mentality of "para pumasa lang."
"History is not done yet with Ilocos Norte," said Governor Marcos, emphasizing the importance of empowering Ilocano youth towards excellence, "In your good hands, the future is safe, secure, and progressive."
Hence, through the annual Sirib Awards being held by the Ilocos Norte Youth Development Office (INYDO), outstanding Ilocano youth have been recognized and rewarded for bringing honor to the province. The last Sirib Awards, held in February, had honored 150 achievers in national and international tilts and examinations.
